Memory Box
These sculptural books document various objects and the memories they hold for me. They are designed to be constructed and deconstructed to better understand the memories I connect with them. The process involves spending many hours documenting every surface plane of objects through lumen printing as well as spending extended periods making and stitching the magnetic spines to the prints.
I consider the process of lumen printing to be like a viewable form of memory. Information is recorded on the paper's surface. More information is recorded as time passes. When lumen printing the paper's surface will continue to be exposed and change, without being fixed. By using toners instead of fixers, the recorded information can still change over time, but it will take longer to fade. Instead of fading over only a few days, it will take months to years to fade away fully. The physical spines and surfaces work in the same way, as the objects are handled the materials will become scuffed and worn. As a whole, the objects represent the way our memories will fade and become worn and fractured over time.
